Scripture

So, following the idea of the moving people on stage at all times...

Could the script perhaps live as a series of stories? Since that is what Baba Yaga exists as, and hopefully this project will convey something of that existence, it makes sense to me to work in that way. The transitions could therefore be a more physical aspect of the show with all those actors, maybe shifting things around on the set as well, maintaining that organic aspect and bringing the space to life. Perhaps the transitions could be flexible and even improvised by some cast members, so long as they're doing things that make sense.

So I propose we discuss this and then come up with a number of sections we want - do we still want to begin and end with Rachel and/or Audrey's similar stories? - and I am willing to write a couple if someone else will take some on as well. If I know who else wants to write we can decide who wants to use which content (characters, themes, motifs??) to prevent overlapping stuff, but also to establish threads and later discuss order. I think this can be less stressful the more people helping move this part along, and I think collaboration will be the golden ticket. Lets do it.

  1. I like this. Also, I want to point out again how much material we already have... We should make sure that doesn't disintegrate into the void.

  2. Yeah, I'm into it. I want to put horses in! Horses!!

also, they don't really all have to be complete stories, do they? They can be fragments and sort of melt into eachother as long as the rising and falling of the play makes sense. Ya?

  3. i also like this idea of having a series of stories. and i would like to second rachel's statement...let's not forget about some of the things we already have written. i do like some of the little "images" and shorter little scene/monologues that we've written and i wouldn't want to totally abandon all of them, so perhaps some of those things can exist still as non-complete stories like eva was saying?

  4. when we had a bunch of unorganized material for Unpack Me we came up with Themes, which in this case could be Stories and then sorted them. it made things a lot easier. maybe we could do that.
that way if eva is writing the horses bit she can look at all we've got about horses already and use that
and I bet some stories are basically already written, they just need to be finished or cleaned up.
and then we can look back at whats left over and see what we want to use for little images.

  5. This is what I've been getting at! Hurray! I was just thinking "Oh we should probably make sure that people writing different stories don't draw from the same extra material we have" But now I'm thinking we SHOULD let that happen because later we can decide where repetition between stories works and where it doesn't. Like an oral tradition... storytelling! I was spooked when ashur said " if someone else will take some on as well." But if I could just be in charge of one I'd be into that...

    Also, Eva wants horses.

  6. I did not mean to frighten you Rachel - don't do anything you don't realllly wanna do! I totally agree about our preexisting material also.

Can I propose a nice roomy deadline of our first fall meeting to bring in a bundle of physical segments and stories? Eva when you have time you can post or email and we'll print them out. That way we can have lots of text to move and shuffle and throw into the air shouting 'whoopee!'

the more we have the better me thinks.

  7. We should propose a nice roomy deadline, give people lots of room. like harem pants.

HOWEVER, I'm going to be at hampshire like, the seventh, eighth and ninth, and while I know that people will be moving in, moving class schedules around etc, it might be nice to have a little teensy meeting before i don't see you all again until january?

    what do you guys think?
